With the renewed threat of Ransomware infections, Varidan have taken extra steps to protect our customers data from these particularly dangerous pieces of Malware.

Based on research by leading Antivirus firms, Australia is one of the top 5 worst affected countries in regard to ransomware, but one of the lowest in the world on overall malware infections.

Experts have warned that there may be a surge of ‘copycat’ ransomwares created to cash-in on the financial success of Cryptolocker, which is reported to have received over USD $25 million in ransom payments.

As a result, we’ve researched and implemented additional measures to assist in ransomware prevention. Based on known infection vectors and our own lab tests, these additional measures can reduce infection rates of ransomware by up to 90%.

These extra measures involve deploying Group Policy and local security objects to all PCs to disallow execution of applications in known malware launch locations.

While these steps will indeed reduce the potential for infection, it will not completely eliminate the threat. There is no ‘magic bullet’ that will make you immune to malicious software.

By its very nature, malware attempts to trick the user into believing that it is not malware. For more information on how to protect yourself from malware, please refer to our earlier blog post.
